DRESS CODE – GIRLS

SKIRTS: Girls may wear the light blue skirt in Fall/Spring and the navy skirt in the Winter. Skirt length must be no higher than 1” above the knee (Diocesan mandate), and must be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara Uniform Company. When the skirt is worn tights are required. OR

SLACKS: Girls may wear navy blue dress slacks with no more than two side pockets and two rear pockets. They must be purchased from Flynn & O’Hara or Lands End only. Corduroys, cargos and “low-cuts” are not permitted. Slacks are to be worn at the natural waist and may not be form fitting. No metal studs or ripped slacks will be tolerated. Belts, may be blue, black or brown, must be worn and are to be tucked into the belt loops of the slacks.

SHORTS: Students may wear navy blue walking shorts which must be purchased through Flynn & O’Hara on days designated by the administration due to excessive heat condition in the building. Navy blue crew socks and school shoes must be worn with shorts.

BLOUSES: All girls must wear a solid light blue or sold white oxford cloth women’s blouse with button down collar. They are to be tucked into the skirt or slacks. The blouse may be long or short sleeve and may be purchased anywhere. No other blouses are permitted. Please do not wear blouses that are larger than normal. Only plain, white, unadorned undershirts are to be worn under the dress shirt.

OUTERWEAR: Regulation navy blue sweater (long sleeve pullover; V-neck sleeveless; cardigan), purchased from the school store; or a plain navy blue blazer. Sweaters with holes in the elbows are not permitted & must be mended to be incompliance. Must be worn from November 1 to April 15.

SOCKS: Socks (no low cut) or navy blue tights are required.

SHOES: Dress shoes, solid black, blue or brown (no canvas) cut below the ankle. No heels, boots, slippers, moccasins, sandals, open toes of any kind are permitted. Sneakers are to be worn for gym classes only.

GROOMING:

  • Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

  • Turtlenecks are not permitted.

  • No more than the top button of uniform blouse may be open.

  • Hair should be kept neat. Unusual, or distracting hair styles are not permitted. Hair should not be dyed in unnatural colors, e.g., purple, pink, green, etc.

  • No visible tattoos.

  • No baseball hats or hats are to be worn in the building at any time.

JEWELRY: Only those items deemed in good taste will be permitted. Dog collars, extremely large hoops (e.g. earrings), any type of spacer, and other excessive or outlandish items such as tongue studs or facial piercing will not be permitted.

FALL/SPRING OPTION: same as above except that the regulation sweater need not be worn. A regulation 3 button knit Marian polo shirt (white or navy blue) purchased from the school store may be worn in place of the regulation blouse. The regulation sweater may not be worn over the polo shirt. Polo shirts are to be tucked into the pants.

DRESS DOWN

On days designated by the Administration as “Dress Down Days”, students have permission to wear casual clothing other than the regular dress code.

  • Girls are permitted to wear loose fitting casual slacks or sweat pants including clean and untorn denim jeans. Camouflage clothing, leggings, and shorts of any type are not permitted.

  • Girls are permitted to wear T-shirts, sweatshirts or other casual shirts/blouses provided they are modest and contain no reference to drugs, alcohol, tobacco or immoral activities. If you have a doubt if something is acceptable, it probably is not. Please do not wear it.

  • Skirts no higher than 1 inch above the knees. Other immodest attire is not permitted.

  • Tank tops or other sleeveless attire is not permitted.

  • Sneakers, slippers, moccasins and casual shoes are permitted (no sandals or flip-flops.)

PANTS: All boys must wear navy blue dress trousers with no more than two side pockets and two rear pockets. Corduroys are not permitted. Trousers must be worn at the waist. Belts, may be blue, black or brown, must be worn and are to be tucked into the belt loops of the trousers.

SHORTS: Students may wear navy blue walking shorts which must be purchased through Flynn & O’Hara on days designated by the administration due to excessive heat condition in the building. Navy blue crew socks and school shoes must be worn with shorts.

SHIRTS: All boys must wear a solid, light blue or solid white oxford cloth dress shirt with button down collar. The shirt may be long or short sleeve and may be purchased anywhere. No other type of shirt is acceptable. Only plain, white, unadorned undershirts are to be worn under the dress shirt.

TIES: A tie or bow tie of any color must be worn fastened snugly around the neck. Exception to this is when a student wears the Marian polo shirt or sports travel shirt.

OUTERWEAR: Regulation navy blue Marian sweater (long sleeve pullover; V-neck sleeveless; cardigan), purchased from the school store; as well as a solid color suit jacket or sports coat. Must be worn from November 1 to April 15.

SHOES: Leather dress shoes (no canvas) cut below the ankle. No boots of any kind or style, no athletic shoes/sneakers, slippers, moccasins or sandals permitted.

SOCKS: All boys must wear regular length socks at all times.

GROOMING:

  • Shirts tucked in at all times.

  • Pants must be worn at waist, not hips.

  • Ties properly adjusted at all times.

  • Boys are not permitted to wear earrings, earring spacers of any type, tongue studs or facial piercing.

  • Boys must be clean shaven at all times. (Violators will shave in school incurring a fine.)

  • No visible tattoos.

  • Hair must be well groomed; may not touch the collar, nor extend beyond the top of the ear, and bangs should not go below the eyebrows. Hair is not to be dyed in unnatural colors.

  • Sideburns are not to extend below the ear lobes.

  • No hats are to be worn in the building at any time.

FALL/SPRING OPTIONS: Same as above except that OUTERWEAR is not necessary. A regulation 3 button knit Marian polo shirt (white or navy blue) purchased from the school store may be worn in place of the oxford shirt and tie. The regulation school sweater may not be worn over the polo shirt.

  • Boys are permitted to wear T-shirts, sweatshirts or other casual shirts provided they contain no reference to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or immoral activities. If you have a doubt if something is acceptable, it probably is not. Please do not wear it.

  • Tank tops or other sleeveless attire are not permitted.

  • Sneakers, slippers, moccasins, or casual shoes are permitted.

NOTE: The Administration at Marian reserves the right to determine the appropriateness of any article of clothing worn at school. Violation of dress code may result in the student not being permitted to attend classes until student is in compliance with the dress code. This may mean a parent/guardian may be called to supply appropriate, regulation clothing. Any other variations to the dress code will be promulgated by the Administration at appropriate times.

SPECIAL DRESS DAYS

A dress-up day requires more formal attire than normal. Boys may only wear shirt, tie, and jacket or sweater. Girls are to wear dressy outfits either with skirts or slacks. Dresses/skirts may not be more than 1 inch above the knee.

Marian Shirt Days will be announced for special occasions. Shirts with Marian logos on them will be permitted on those days, however, all other required school attire (e.g. slacks, socks, shoes, etc.) are to be worn.
